The Top 13 Traditional European Foods

7. Pizza (Italy)

Pizza is round dough covered in tomato sauce, and topped with mozzarella cheese. The toppings can be changed according to your taste.

Pizza is popular all over the globe, but no one does it better than the Italians. The Neapolitans, the people of the Italian city of Naples, are believed to have invented the first pizzas. Pizza was popular because flatbreads are cheap and easy to make.

Each Italian city has its own pizza style. Rome likes a thin, crispy base while Naples prefers a softer and more pliable bottom. Pizza is not just fast food. There are some very decadent pizzas. The most expensive pizza is $12K and is topped with organic Buffalo mozzarella, three types of caviar. The pizza comes with a sommelier, a pizza chef and special plates and cutlery.

8. Currywurst (Germany)

Currywurst is a must-try for visitors to Germany. Visitors to Germany should try this simple but tasty fast food, especially if they’ve had a night out. This dish is a combination of two of the best ingredients on earth: sausage and chips. To top it all off, a delicious curry flavoured ketchup. Curry flavored ketchup.

Herta HEUWER invented currywurst, in Berlin in 1949 after obtaining ketchup from British soldiers and curry powder. Currywurst was created when Herta Heuwer mixed in some other spices before pouring sauce over grilled meat. The snack was initially popular among local construction workers rebuilding Berlin, but soon spread throughout the country.

The Germans are said to eat around 800 million currywursts each year. They love this dish so much that they even built a Museum dedicated to it in Berlin. This is a huge amount of sausage.

9. Waffles (Belgium)

Let’s not waste any more time on sausages. Let’s go to Belgium. The Liege waffle is a Belgian waffle, and the Brussels waffle is a type of waffle. The Brussels waffle comes in a rectangular shape and is topped with sweets. On the other hand, the Liege waffle has an oval shape and is made from brioche dough.

Waffles can be made with a batter that’s baked in a waffle maker. The waffles are often topped with sugar, cinnamon or strawberries. Over a dozen different types of waffles are available in Belgium.

Maurice Vermersch introduced waffles to the US in 1962 during the Seattle World Fair. Maurice Vermersch was worried that Americans would not know where Brussels is located, so he changed Brussels waffles into Bel- Gem waffles in order to better resonate with his audience. The Belgian waffle we know today is basically a simplified version Brussels waffle.
