Early menopause can cause symptoms that are similar to menopause symptoms at age 51. However, early menopause symptoms may be more noticeable. The process is not usually reversible, but can be managed.
You can be tested to determine if you’re going through an early menopause. Ask your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. It usually involves a physical exam and a test to determine if there is something else, such as an unidentified pregnancy or thyroid problems.
It is not always genetics that causes a woman to have a premature menopause. This can be due to an illness, or some medical treatments like radiation therapy.
1. Regular Periods
When you experience wild fluctuations in your period before the age of forty, it can be an indication of the early menopause. These irregularities can take on a variety of forms. You may find that your monthly period is now closer or farther apart. This is because of a change in estrogen levels, which is what causes the uterine lining to thicken.
If you experience this irregularity before the age of 45-55, you should consult your doctor. In rare cases, women can enter menopause with no irregularities in their periods. Your periods will stop completely at a certain time, which is considered the official menopause.
