Best places to visit in 2023

Rwanda

In January 2023, opened the official doors of Rwanda’s most exciting new hotel: Sextantio Rwanda. This collection of traditional huts is located on an island in Lake Kivu, Africa’s largest lake.

Daniele Kihlgren’s first project outside Italy is a part-hotel and part-living-history project that keeps local traditions alive. Sextantio is a nonprofit that gives money directly to local communities. Guests can fish on the 1,000-square mile lake, paddle in dugout canoes or try local banana beer.

You’ll definitely want to see gorillas. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, which is located adjacent to Volcanoes national park, opened the 4,500 square meter Ellen DeGeneres campus in 2022. The visitor center features exhibits, virtual gorilla “encounters”, and nature trails.

White rhinos, which were transferred to Akagera from South Africa for conservation in 2021, are already giving birth in the park. Also, it’s much easier to reach. The only direct flight to Kigali outside of Africa is now available from London. It joins Brussels and Dubai as well as Guangzhou, Mumbai, and Guangzhou. JB
