10 Unexpected Sauna Benefits

5. Reduced DOMS

DOMS refers to ‘delayed-onset muscle soreness.’ It is a type of muscle pain felt after an exercise. You’re probably familiar with DOMS if you’ve ever had a hard pecs workout and the next morning you were unable to move your arms.

The presence of DOMS does not make it a bad thing. The use of drugs and ice to reduce inflammation may actually hinder the muscle growth and adaptations athletes want.

It’s true that DOMS can be painful, and it can make it difficult to train well the following day. Spending time in the sauna can help you relax the muscles and feed them with blood, which will reduce the pain.
