Glen Kuiper found out this lesson in May 2023. The veteran Oakland A’s broadcaster made a racial insult when reporting a story on the Negro Leagues.
The reporter, who had been with the newspaper for many years, was dismissed quickly. Although he said his slur had been an “unintentional mispronunciation”, nobody believed that. Even if it were a mistake, a slip of this magnitude was evidence that Kuiper had lost his mind and was not fit to report.
