The Asteroid Could be pushed by spacecraft
Johnson proposed that unmanned spacecraft could be sent into orbit to change the trajectory of the asteroid. These ships would hit the asteroid with high speed. Theoretically, the kinetic force of the impact could change the trajectory of the space rock away from the planet. This is the scenario with the best chance of success. Johnson, however, is not optimistic.
