Familiar Face
Austin and the man recognized each other as the older man opened up the door. The two had met before, at the shelter where the man often visited to adopt older dogs that were sick and fragile. They shared a warm greeting and their connection was instant. The dog that they had rescued had taken the collars in memory of the old man’s canine companions who had died.
Its familiar scent may have caused it to be unable to let go of the bag. Austin left with a feeling of satisfaction knowing they had saved the dog and helped him reconnect to his old memories.
