Deep Breath
Austin took a deep breath and rang the creaky wood doorbell. They were immediately greeted by a cacophony barks coming from the dogs in the house. The sound echoed throughout the surrounding quietness, increasing their apprehension.
One of the dogs jumped and barked frantically as it approached the window next to the door. Austin’s heart sank when he saw the collar bearing the number 31. The dog with the tangled bundle of collars was the one they had rescued before.
