23. Grady is Irked
Grady found it irksome that Roland was only here for three weeks and was already a citizen. Merriview, a small, unwelcoming town, was home to Roland Redding, who was almost the mayor.
No one asked him about his strange way of talking, his clothes or who he was. He wondered if Roland would be at the Grady-led town hall tomorrow.
He had to first answer the question of his wife.
24. Grady wants an Answer
He said, “Okay,” to Marianne. “Answer this question.”
He said, “He told me he was driving around and his car broke down. Right? How does he own so many suits? He wears a new suit every day. He had brought clothing for weeks and yet he just passed by?”
Marianne shrugged. Grady was worried about how unperturbed she was by her logic. She said, “Maybe he lived in his car.”
