Chontacuro (Ecuador)

Chontaduro is one of most typical dishes in Ecuador. It is a dish made from worms that are 6 cm long on average. They can be eaten raw, cooked, or grilled.

They are also said to possess healing properties, which relieves cough, asthma and stomach pain.

Llama tongue and brains (Bolivia)

The llama, a domesticated animal native to the Bolivian Andes, is part of Bolivian tradition and it is also consumed! The llama brains and tongue are some of Bolivia’s most popular traditional dishes.

The brains have a viscous texture and are usually served fried, or roasted . If you’re traveling in Bolivia, try both!

Sarapatera de Tortuga (Peru)

You must be curious and familiar with the most popular dishes of the Peruvian Amazon. The asopado is made from turtle.

The preparation of this soup is difficult because it is cooked in the animal’s shell and using firewood. To give the soup a sweeter taste, the turtle is chopped into small pieces. Seasonings, grated banana and salt are also added.
